Our Favourite Rides

Have you been keeping up with our favourite local rides blog over the last few weeks? Did you catch last week's feature on Marciac?

This week's ride is another request, a ride that featured in last year's TDF and a great picnic spot, oh and on the way back, there's our favourite bar to drop into for a quick refreshing drink.

Over the next few weeks, I'll continue to add some more of our favourite rides onto the blog for you to see where we cycle to from our base at Allons y Pyrenees.

In the meantime, head to our Favourite Rides page on the website if you want to see more or let us know your favourite ride and we'll check it out!

Ride number 5: Mauvezin Chateau Loop.
Gaston Phebus, was one of the most important figures of the Middle Ages, Count of Foix and Viscount of Bearn, a warrior prince, hunter, and the architect of the magnificent Chateau de Mauvezin, which he transformed into an impenetrable fortress – the castle's strategic position is obvious as soon as you arrive, and the views are stunning both from the castle when you arrive and of the castle as you ride towards it. This short loop is a great training ride or one for a quiet day with enough hills to make you feel like you've achieved a decent ride without pushing yourself too hard or far. There's even a 'col' thrown in for good measure, although it is an unofficial one; the col de Capvern!

Got a col worth mentioning? Let me know and I'll include it in the blog for you!
tournay cafe stop
The Bastide - a fantastic cafe/bar and our local! Perfect for a drink on the way back from a ride.
col de capvern
Not officially a col - the stretch of road known as the col de Capvern!
This castle loop is a pleasant cycle through meandering lanes with the castle temptingly in view as you ride.
